Programing: Infants

Infants 6 weeks-18 months

We offer a home like atmosphere that provides responsive care giving to all children. We investigate each child’s cries immediately and care for them in a calm relaxed manner.  We care for each child’s needs individually and strive to learn each parent and child’s routines.  Each child in our program will be assigned a primary care giver. This is the person who will care for most of the child’s needs throughout the day. A secure attachment is achieved by sharing loving and respectful care routines or

Infant Room

'moments'. Care moments for infant and toddler are gentle, intimate, and playful interactions between the primary caregiver and child during feeds, sleeps, and diaper changes.  We include a language rich atmosphere for the infants reading books, and describing what is going on in our room. We sing to and hold reciprocal “conversations” using eye contact with each child daily to encourage their language development. We introduce all children to sign language to encourage communication. Basic Math and Science will be taught by offering children shapes, textures, and natural items. Teachers will count and describe what the child is doing to enhance the child’s experience when appropriate. Physical development is a major focus of this stage. At TLC we do not confine children in apparatus, but allow children the freedom of movement in the classroom. Each child is treated individually and taught to their level as well as challenged to encourage development. TLC staff members create lesson plans based on the children’s developmental levels and interests that run for two weeks to provide opportunity for repetition and mastery of skills.

All activities will be introduced individually and as the children are interested. If a child is no longer interested in an activity they will not be required to participate. All art activities should emphasize the process not product. Crafts for holidays that include handprint and footprint art will be allowed sparingly.  Staff members will re-stage the shelves a few times throughout the week to encourage new exploration as well as changing materials every few weeks.
