Programing: Preschoolers

Preschoolers 3 years- 5 years

The preschool program prepares children for life. We offer an educational setting where children can explore and create while they learn. We offer a balance of free play and structured, individual and group activities. We believe children learn the most through play.

CurriculumCurriculum will be created based on the children’s skills and interests. Each day’s lesson plan will include books to be read, planned activities available, and circle time activities. Circle time will include the book, songs and active game,

and a  discussion.

We introduce math concepts to children by offering an enriched math center. The items offer experiences with items of different length, color, and sizes to explore and learn from. Teachers encourage development through questions and interactions with the children. Please think about mathematics in broad terms. This includes using math rich language such as long, short, wide, tall, under. over, etc. to describe children’s play. We provide experiences for children to practice counting, one to one correspondence, patterning, shapes and geometry, and spacial concepts.

We enhance language and literacy in children through offering experiences that involve speaking, listening, and pre reading and writing skills.  We read with and to the children multiple times every day. We offer a dramatic play center where children practice their language in interacting and pretending with their friends. the dramatic play center will be changed based on the children’s interests. TLC also encourages writing by first enhancing the children’s fine motor skills. This is done through activities that encourage the use of pincer grasp such as threading beads and a variety or writing materials.

We offer an extensive science program where we teach children to question and experiment. Our science center contains a variety of items to explore life science, earth science, and chemistry. As the children explore real life objects, they are able to practice using the scientific method and make a hypothesis. Science is all around, as a child notices a bug the teacher will pause and take the time to discuss, question and describe what the child is seeing.

We encourage exploration of the arts including dance, music, drama, and visual arts. We do this through exposure to different types of dance and music every day. Our art center contains a variety of materials. We expose children to different artists and art styles. We focus on the process of creating art, not the product that is created thus enhancing children’s self-esteem and willingness to experiment and express themselves.
